Pelagia expands our activity in Skagen, Denmark
We are pleased to announce the opening of our new factory in Skagen. The factory will process raw materials received from fishing vessels and trucks.
The first landing from fishing vessel was S. 144 Themis, based in Skagen, which landed a full load of sprat from the Baltic Sea for processing at the factory. Thus, the factory is now fully operational after a hectic construction period.
The construction of Pelagia Denmark's new factory began in January 2024. The factory is located on Stage 3 of the harbor expansion in Skagen, which was completed in the spring of 2021, and is built on part of the 38,000 m² area that Pelagia Denmark owns. The area is located directly adjacent to a 625-meter-long quay with a deep water depth. At the factory, the fish are converted into fish silage, which consists of chopped fish and fish parts that are not usable as regular food. The silage is then shipped out in tankers.
At the same time, there will be an import of fish oil to the facility in Skagen, a large part of which will be redistributed to the European market.
The director of Pelagia Denmark, Mogens Andersen, is pleased that the new factory is completed and says, "We are already well under way with the work and have high expectations for the future. The location of the factory directly by the quay with an 11-meter water depth is quite advantageous for us. Additionally, there is room for further development of the factory area on this site."
