Sustainability

At Pelagia, sustainability is our business

Processing more than 800,000 tonnes of pelagic fish annually, our job is complex, yet easy. Making sure that not a gram goes to waste, but brought to use in the best way possible.

At Pelagia, the cooperation and utilization of raw materials between the different parts of the business is an integral part of our business model. In practice, all activities in Pelagia are linked to the utilization of renewable fish raw materials.

Processing more than 800,000 tonnes of pelagic fish annually, our job is complex, yet easy. Making sure that not a gram goes to waste, but brought to use in the best way possible.

Food

In Food, all fish goes into the production of food for humans with a varying degree of processing. To the extent that there is processing in Food in the form of production of fish fillets or other products, the residual raw material will go on to our Feed division where it will be included as a raw material in the production.

Feed

With its seven ships in operation, Pelagia collects residual raw materials from the salmon industry with our own vessels. From this raw material, protein concentrates and oil are made. These finished products are used as ingredients in feed for animals other than salmon.

Health

Some of the oil products can be further refined so that individual products from this raw material can be used in specialized products, for example, ingredients in dietary supplements and pharmaceutical products in the Pelagia Health division.

The raw material that’s not suitable for human consumption, is used in the production of technical oil for fuel or to produce biogas. And with that usage cycle completed, 100% of the fish has been utilized.
