The factory is located in the north-east of Scotland in its third largest city, Aberdeen and started as the Caledonian Fishmeal Company in 1977. The factory processes trimmings mainly from the human fish processing industry and converts them into high grade fishmeal and fish oil. This in turn is used as a high protein feed in the aquaculture, poultry and pig industries.
Trimmings from herring, mackerel, cod, haddock and salmon are some of the key species that are processed on site. These trimmings are received from all over Scotland – from the key ports of Peterhead and Fraserburgh in the north-east to the salmon farms on the west coast.
The factory can process up to 750 tonnes per day and operates all year round. The site holds an IPPC environmental licence regulated by SEPA and is licensed to operate under ABPR by Animal & Plant Health Agency. The factory has FEMAS accreditation, organic registration and has achieved the MarinTrust Standard for Responsible Supply of Marine Ingredients.
