Pelagia acquires 100% of the shares in Aquarius AS

In the late 1990’s, Vigner Olaisen, together with several other local players, established Aquarius in Lovund. Subsequently, in 2008 Hordafôr became the largest shareholder in the company which lead to many years of strong growth and development at Aquarius. In the past year, Pelagia acquired full ownership of Hordafôr and as a result means that Aquarius is an important part of Pelagia’s overall structure.

In 2022, Aquarius landed a record volume of pelagic by-products at Lovund all of which is utilised in the production of protein concentrate and fish oil. This in turn creates a circular economic environment, as the products produced by Aquarius are then sold on to the feed producers for inclusion in salmon aquaculture feed products. Over the years, Aquarius has demonstrated a strong financial performance and remains a highly competitive company.

An agreement to acquire the entire shareholding in Aquarius has now been concluded between Vigner Olaisen and Pelagia.

Egil Magne Haugstad, CEO of Pelagia AS, commends Vigner Olaisen and the employees of Aquarius for working together to build a great company. “Pelagia considers Aquarius to be an efficient well-run factory and we look forward to being an integral part of its future development.  Pelagia strives to be a good customer to our suppliers by utilising a combination of efficient operations, a coherent marketing strategy and a strong internal working culture. As such, Pelagia will use this acquisition to further benefit Lovund and our suppliers.”

General Manager, Siw Moxness commented that “Vigner Olaisen believes Pelagia is a good fit for the future of Aquarius and he has great faith that further investment will take place at the plant in Lovund”. Vigner Olaisen concludes that “We are proud of the development in Aquarius and wish the company the best of luck going forward.”
